New to Rust - looking for community/open source projects

Hi,

I am new to Rust but have 25 years of development experience, the last 12 or so has been pretty much exclusively working with Scala primarily in the financial services space.

Scala is sadly in terminal decline so I am looking for something new.

Is anyone running or involved with community/open source projects I can contribute to?

Obviously I am not a Rust expert but have been through the book and examples and feel I have a high level view. I feel I would learn a lot more observing and contributing to a real world project. I get that there is probably quite a steep curve coming from a JVM language but I am hoping that my industry experience can still add value.

Thanks for any replies or advice.

Maybe browsing through

will give you some inspiration on what project to contribute to. There is also the TWiR Call for Participation topic here on URLO:

where the Rust community shares issues that are well suited for first-time contributors to their project.

I have a stack of Java music decoders I want to convert to Rust. It should give them also a performance boost. But I have also limited Rust knowledge to start the work.
