Rustup failing to install nightly without errors?

Hi and sorry for the very simple question; but I am either doing something very stupid, or something very wrong is with my rust installation on Windows10? I am simply running rustup --verbose toolchain install nightly and getting:

That is... the toolchain is not being installed but no errors are raised?

rustup --version
rustup 1.22.1 (b01adbbc3 2020-07-08)

rustup toolchain list
stable-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc (default)

Thanks for any help!

I would probably just delete ~/.rustup and start over. I don’t know of any great mechanisms to debug the issue.

Thanks for the reply; I deleted .rustup and still it won't install nightly. It will happily install stable again though... very weird

I'm getting the same thing on GitHub Actions  It just started failing recently.

Ah, good point... this was my first time installing nightly so it didn't cross my mind to install a previous version. rustup toolchain install nightly-2020-09-11 worked; thanks for the replies!

This issue is relevant to Github Actions using actions-rs:

If you select a component (such as clippy or rustfmt), then it'll be more forgiving, but if it's just rustc then it will fail when the upstream builder fails.
