It’s a shame to have to write this; I know this forum isn’t meant for this, but the truth is I’m in a bit of a tricky spot. I’ve been looking for my first job as a software developer for two years now. I’ve followed some advice, such as tailoring my CV to each application and working on a few projects – they aren’t the best, but I’ve done them – and I’ve posted some code on my Medium channel. Now I’m setting up my own blog so I can post content about Rust.
Could you give me some advice on how to personalise my CV? If I can’t get into Rust, I might apply for another role, but what I’m really looking for is some advice. I’d like to thank everyone who can help me
It's difficult to give any specific advice, as every market has its own differences and no two people have the same experience.
One thing you can consider, if you live in a big-ish city, is to go to meet-ups/conferences. Sometimes all you got to do is to be in a right place at a right time. But first you have to be there in the first place.
Honestly getting a job in Rust is hard, its harder learning curve makes someone can not pick it up easily, and making the talent pool is smaller for continous hiring availability. The first Rust job that I got was freelance contract from Upwork website, maybe you can try it. If you currently don't have a job, it is better to start learning other language that has better job chance not to keep it must be Rust while keep applying for any Rust job available (multitasking). Time moves we gotta adapt
