It's been a while since I posted about my game of Hnefatafl and I have had a bunch of releases. It is now up to version 4.5.0 and has a site https://hnefatafl.org. If you have not already, check it out and play some games.
I also created an AI, but it is too slow to run on my side computers. Maybe try improving it, or if you have free CPU, run an instance.
Also, I'm looking for a MacOS maintainer. If you use MacOS and would be willing to help let me know. I already generate a .app file via cargo bundle, so all you would have to do is maintain a homebrew cask.
I released version 5.0.0 of hnefatafl-copenhagen, adding tournaments, and changing the license to the AGPLv3-or-later. I also made some other minor changes.
I think you’re overlooking that this project’s name is apparently nothing new, but has been the actual name of this kind of board games (according to Wikipedia) for centuries
Haha, the post from @Jesper made me look it up too. I often play chess, and had no idea that there used to be an older board game with kind of similar concepts. The site for the game could actually use some of the interesting historical points... along with the outfit... :'D Currently there's nothing about the background of the game there.
I can add a snippet about the history of the game. Do you have a suggestion for what to add? Note that I implemented Copenhagen Hnefatafl, which is a modern variant.
I think some basic background from wikipedia will do. Like, its origins, when it was superseded by chess and why your version a modern variant compared to the ancient ones (there seems to be lots of variants of this game O.O). Just so people have a basic idea about the game when going through the docs. I knew about Shogi and Go, but this was the first time I searched it up... it was because of the viking outfit... yes, I know, what you are thinking, but you will be surprised by how many people are simple-minded like me :'D
